The Future is Manageable
So I spent a couple of hours between yesterday and today mapping out how my classes could work over the next four semesters. Provided that I can get into the classes that I want during the semesters that I want (and that’s somewhat flexible), I’ll be able to complete a Film Studies major and a Political Science minor/concentration with relative ease; that means one more five-class...
White House Unbuttons Formal Dress Code -... →
I’m just going to say it already: I kind of want to work for Barack Obama. Plus, doesn’t the Obama White House seem similar to the Bartlett White House?
The First Woman to Call an N.F.L. Game, and the... →
Here’s something I’ve never thought about: why don’t women ever call games? How is that not a glass ceiling?

– Tara Parker-Pope for the New York Times. Tyra Banks? Oprah Winfrey? An oral-sex epidemic? Is this the plot for a new thriller/comedy?
Power, politics, gossip on daily call - John F.... →
Very, very interesting. Rahm Emanuel, James Carville, Paul Begala and George Stephanopoulos apparently call each other every morning to discuss the Washington political climate.
"24-Hour News Cycle" by Andrew B. on CollegeHumor →
This was published earlier this month, but I wanted to share it in order to drive home a point: 24 sucks.
It’s a little long, but hilarious nonetheless.
For all the macho posturing of its principal propagandists, between the...
– Charlie Pierce for Slate Magazine. Is this what you what baseball to become? Because a salary cap is the first step in that direction.

Really cool article about Mike Tomlin’s career path—he played his college ball at William and Mary and never went pro.

Really fascinating stuff. Rahm Emanuel is a freaking badass.
Obama Reverses Rules on U.S. Abortion Aid -... →
This didn’t quite make headlines amidst the secret prison closings, but I think that this is important—not necessarily as a policy measure, but rather as a signal of Obama’s political intentions and will.

The problem with being a jazzhead is that all of our greatest artists are leaving us. Rest in peace, Fathead.
The scene at the National Mall. Filmed with my new toy, the wonderful little Flip MinoHD. You can watch it in HD here.

For reals.
Fat people jokes plus the children of deceased civil rights leaders equals the guiltiest laughs out loud you will ever have.
I feel weird writing it, but I think that Friday Night Lights may be the best drama on television right now (if Lost is something closer to a thriller than a drama). I’ve been watching the show for both of the previous two seasons, and the characters and writing somehow continue to remain compelling.
Is Obama President? →
I love it!
Fox News' Chris Wallace: Is Obama even president?... →
Everybody at Fox News is an idiot. There, I said it. Also, it appears that Barack Obama knows the presidential oath better than John Roberts.
This Weekend
I’ll be in Washington, DC for the Presidential Inauguration and a conference—hopefully my first-hand experience of a groundbreaking historical event will give me something to write about at Break Out The Oreos.

Like most of his readers, I never knew Todd Drew in person, and he never knew me at all. However, after more than a year of reading his frequently-published short anecdotes about the Bronx and the Yankees, I can honestly say that Todd’s passing leaves me with a heavy heart. He was a first-class writer whose words and storytelling were so eloquent that they hardly belonged in a place as...
So I was a big Trekkie when I was a kid. Which makes it exciting for me to see that J.J. Abrams is making a Star Trek film with some depth, which I have cleverly deduced from all two minutes and twelve seconds of this trailer.
The best part about being a “fake American” is that all of the funny people are on our side.
This makes me unbelievably excited—and strangely, for the real thing, not the video game.
Great sketch—both cerebral and hilarious. Neil Patrick Harris hosted a great show, but oddly enough it seemed that it was a strong set of sketches for some of the other players, as well.

Tyler Kepner is right—depth is good. And this way the Yankees have protection against injuries should Matsui or Damon get injured.

Governor Paterson’s questionnaire for prospective Senators. Apparently we bloggers aren’t suitable.
I wonder if Oprah ever gets scared of her own cultish fans.

So yeah, Barack Obama went to my high school—back when it was virtually all-white.
